Welcome

From the Head of Castle Hill Campus

From the Head of Castle Hill Campus

As the new Head of Castle Hill Campus, it has been a pleasure to meet many of you and your children and to see our students settle so positively into a new year of learning across both the Castle Hill and Kellyville campuses.

In just seven short weeks, our College has been filled with energy and excitement as students have engaged in a wide range of meaningful experiences, including camps, Opening Convocation, Week of Worship, Welcome Tea, the Swimming Carnival, Chapel, Excursions, Hills Zone events, Open Days, NAPLAN, and a variety of Creative Enrichment opportunities. We are deeply grateful for the ongoing support of our families and staff in all that takes place both in the classroom and beyond.

Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Placing our trust in God brings purpose and guidance. This verse reminds us not to depend only on our own insight, but to lean on God instead. As we include Him in our learning, relationships and plans, He promises to lead us.

As a College community, we are encouraged to walk together with faith, purpose and gratitude for the opportunities each day brings. As we learn, grow, and connect across our College, may we continue to support one another with kindness, patience and grace. By trusting in God’s guidance, we create a nurturing environment where our students can thrive academically, socially and spiritually.

May this year continue to be one where we grow together in faith and learning, trusting that God will guide and bless our journey as a College community.

What are your favourite stories? Maybe it is a film, a book, a friend’s love story, or a piece of family history.

We all have stories that we hold close. These are the stories that shape us into who we are today. No matter how many times we hear them, even when we know all the ups and downs, twists and turns, there are some stories we never really get tired of.

My mum has often shared stories of my grandfather throughout my life. As I never had the opportunity to meet him, I treasure hearing these stories, even the same ones again and again. He sounded like such a wonderful man and I can see a lot of my relatives and even myself reflected in those stories. The kind of person he was has shaped who I am today, partly because of how he raised my mum and partly because of the lessons I have learned from hearing about his life.

This is one of the reasons reading is so important. You never know the impact a story might have on your child. It is also a beautiful thing when we as parents can share the stories that have shaped us and see what effect they may have on the next generation.

The Bible is much the same. Even though it is technically a library of 66 different books, including letters, poems and songs, it tells one overarching story that is still shaping the world today through those who follow it. Even our very calendar has been influenced by it in many ways.

As we head towards Easter, we are focusing on understanding God’s Big Story in our Junior School space at Kellyville. Each week at junior chapel we are exploring a different part of this story and why Easter is so important to us. Feel free to ask one of our Kellyville Junior School students about Pr Josh’s squiggly line.

We have been moving through the story of how God created a good world, how evil corrupted it, and we are heading towards what God has done about it through Jesus. That is why Easter matters so much. It is a chance to hear the story again in community and to allow it to shape us once more for all that lies ahead.

What are the stories you want to shape your family? How will you continue to celebrate and share them?

If you do not already have plans for Easter, we would love to host you at Kellyville Adventist Church. Whether you have heard the story your whole life or this is your first time encountering it, we would be honoured to have you join us for any or all of our Easter weekend celebrations.

Swimming Carnival

Swimming Carnival

Our annual Swimming Carnival was an awesome day full of fun, laughter, and sunshine! Students gave their best in the pool and showed incredible support for their houses.

It was fantastic to see our Junior School students getting involved. A special highlight was watching our Senior School students in the pool alongside them, offering encouragement, guidance, and a helping hand when it was needed. The seniors showed wonderful compassion and leadership, and it was clear that the younger students had an amazing time because of their support.

It was also exciting to see several records broken throughout the day. House spirit was on full display during the cheer competition, with plenty of noise, colour, and creativity from each team. Other highlights were the Great Race and the house relays, which had everyone cheering as students and staff gave it their all.

A big well done to everyone who participated and helped make the day such a fun and memorable event!

Kindergarten Learns Their First Sounds!

Kindergarten Learns Their First Sounds!

Kindergarten has been focusing on the letter Ss and the /s/ sound – sss ! There have been many “wow” moments as students blend sounds, identify beginning sounds in words, clap syllables, and recognise rhyming words.

Our Book of the Week was Grandpa and Thomas , where we loved the playful sounds: “sssplish, sssplosh, sssplash!” Sammy Seal has also been our class mascot while exploring the letter Ss.

Students explored the letter through hands-on activities, including sand writing, tracing, playdough letters, pom poms, paint dots, tracing with cars, and a rice sensory activity using tongs to build fine motor skills. They also practiced writing the letter using sky, grass, and ground lines.

We are so proud of our Kindy students and the fantastic progress they have made.

They are truly sssssupper sssstars!

Chloe A Stars on the Pitch in PSSA Cricket!

Congratulations to Chloe A who was selected to represent the CIS Cricket team, a fantastic achievement.

The team performed exceptionally well throughout the tournament, narrowly missing a place in the final after a heartbreaking loss to Sydney West on the second last ball of their pool game. Showing great resilience, the girls bounced back strongly to secure an impressive 3rd place overall with a convincing win against Sydney North.

Well done to Chloe and the team on an outstanding result!

Finley’s achievements don’t stop there. His outstanding performance earned him a spot on the Australian Mighty 11’s BMX team, which will face off against New Zealand in July. With his talent and dedication, Finley is proving himself as one of the rising stars in the BMX scene.

Year 11 Long Reef Excursion

Year 11 Long Reef Excursion

Recently, Year 11 Biology students visited Long Reef Rock Platform to conduct a field study on the distribution of aquatic animals living on the rock platform.

During the excursion, students observed and recorded different species in their natural habitat, applying the skills they have been learning in class. The fieldwork also formed part of their first Biology assessment task, with students completing worksheets and collecting data on site.

The excursion provided a valuable hands-on learning experience and a practical application of their Biology studies.

Year 12 Fundraiser

Year 12 Fundraiser

Year 12 students have already begun fundraising for their Year 12 Formal with a Valentine’s Day (V-Day) stall selling roses and chocolates. Students were able to purchase them for friends or someone special, with deliveries made throughout the day.

The stall created excitement around the school and helped raise funds for the much-anticipated formal. With a successful start to their fundraising efforts, the Year 12 cohort is looking forward to organising more activities throughout the year.

Year 12 Retreat

Year 12 Retreat

Earlier this term, our Year 12 students attended their annual retreat at CRU Camp Lake Mac, Lake Macquarie. The retreat gave students the opportunity to prepare for the important year ahead while spending time together away from school.

Students participated in study skills workshops, UAC and post–Year 12 pathway sessions, and a presentation from Avondale University. A guest speaker also shared valuable insights about senior studies, wellbeing and life beyond school, while daily devotions provided time for reflection and spiritual growth.

Alongside these sessions, students enjoyed recreational activities such as game nights, fishing and kayaking, allowing them to relax and strengthen friendships.

The retreat was a valuable experience that helped students feel more confident, motivated and connected as they begin their final year.

Excellence Program

Excellence Program

Hills Adventist College celebrates student effort and achievement across all areas of the College life. From 2025, the Excellence Program will recognise students in Academics, Sport, Citizenship, and The Arts. Excellence at Hills is about doing your best and actively engaging in College life, not just results.

Points earned contribute to the House Shield, except for Citizenship, which is non-competitive to encourage positive behaviour, participation, and service. Parents can view their child’s points on the SEQTA Engage app.

Students in Years 5–10 will complete Culture of Excellence tasks that build skills and knowledge in preparation for formal assessments. Both Culture of Excellence and formal tasks will be shared on SEQTA and recorded on reports. With continuous reporting, tasks will be released throughout the year, with two end-of-semester reports and two annual parent–teacher meeting opportunities.

Students in Years 5–12 at Kellyville who need additional support with homework or class tasks may attend lunchtime academic support sessions, reinforcing our commitment to effort, growth, and support for all learners.
